KORBA-Balconagar. Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, observed World Quality Week 2025 under the theme ‘Think Differently’, spotlighting its commitment to embracing innovation and strengthening a culture of continuous improvement across operations.
The weeklong observance brought together over 1,000 employees through a series of immersive, knowledge-led engagements, designed to reimagine quality as a driver of operational excellence. From interactive learning forums to collaborative problem-solving sessions, the initiatives encouraged employees to explore new approaches, challenge assumptions, and contribute fresh ideas for performance enhancement.
Speaking about the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director, BALCO, said, “Thinking out of the box and coming up with new different ideas lays a foundation of innovation. Through such initiatives, we aim to inspire people to move beyond conventional practices and embrace creativity as an essential driver of quality. At BALCO, we believe that excellence is achieved when every individual takes ownership of improvement with curiosity and purpose.”

During the celebration, one of the key attractions was a curated showcase of mini operational models that offered employees a simplified yet holistic view of BALCO’s value chain, from smelting and power plants to cast houses and labs. This helped participants to understand the complex interlinkages of the production ecosystem and the role of quality at every stage.
Additionally, the slogan-writing competitions centred around ‘Think Differently’ and ‘Speak Quality,’ along with the Quality Canvas contest, offered platform for employees to create both digital and handmade posters portraying their unique interpretations of excellence. Participants also shared personal anecdotes and workplace learnings through Voice of Values, celebrating individual contributions that reflect BALCO’s ethos of integrity and performance.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Harsh Vardhan Dubey, Head Process Control at Casthouse, shared, “Participating in activities like the Defects Hunt made me look at our daily operations from a fresh perspective. It was rewarding to identify areas for improvement and collaboratively develop practical and realistic solutions. This exercise made us realize how critical teamwork and people involvement is pivotal towards building and elevating quality culture across the plant.”
Engagements such as the ‘Kaun Banega Quality Champion’ quiz, ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ sessions and ‘Gemba Walk’ by senior leaders further facilitated open dialogue on quality systems and best practices while recognising efforts for improvement.
BALCO has been certified with globally benchmarked certifications like ISO 9001:2015 for quality management systems and BIS certification for its diverse product portfolio reaffirming BALCO’s position as a frontrunner in advancing quality excellence within India’s aluminium industry.
