Gets First-hand Insight into Mining Operations, Energy Security and Sustainable Development Initiatives
Bilaspur: A media delegation comprising journalists and media representatives from Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand visited South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) to gain first-hand insights into its mining operations and contribution to the nation’s energy security.
The media familiarisation visit was facilitated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
During an interaction at SECL Headquarters, Bilaspur, the delegation was briefed on SECL’s operations and its role in meeting the nation’s energy requirements. Key areas including environmental stewardship, mine safety, technology adoption, CSR, community and employee welfare, diversification and women empowerment were discussed.
The interaction was attended by Shri Biranchi Das, Director (HR); Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director (Technical–Operations); and Shri Nripendra Nath, Director (Technical–Projects & Planning), Addl. Chg., SECL, along with senior officials of the company.
SECL management reiterated the company’s commitment to meeting the nation’s energy needs while remaining steadfast in its responsibility towards the welfare of communities and environmental stewardship. The delegation was also apprised of SECL’s efforts towards safe, technology-driven and sustainable mining.
Earlier, the delegation undertook a ground visit to Gevra Area, Asia’s largest coal mine, where the media representatives witnessed mining operations and gained an understanding of coal extraction and associated activities. The delegation also observed environmental and sustainability initiatives undertaken in the mining area, including the Miyawaki plantation initiative.
The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A and experience-sharing session, providing the media representatives an opportunity to engage with SECL officials on various aspects of mining, energy security, safety, technology, environment and community development.
