The event showcased SECL’s ongoing efforts towards environmental stewardship through a series of awareness and engagement activities.

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the Environment Flag by Shri Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL. The occasion was graced by Shri N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical/Operations); Shri Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources); Shri Himanshu Jain, Chief Vigilance Officer; Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director (Technical/P&P); Mrs. Shashi Duhan, President, Shraddha Mahila Mandal; Vice Presidents Mrs. Anita Franklin, Mrs. Ipsita Das, Mrs. Vinita Jain and Mrs. Shubhashree Mahapatra, along with senior officials, employees and members of Shraddha Mahila Mandal.

As part of the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, a plantation drive was undertaken in Nehru Shatabdi Nagar Colony under the leadership of Shri Harish Duhan. Senior management, office bearers and members of Shraddha Mahila Mandal, along with departmental heads, planted a variety of fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings, reaffirming their collective commitment to building a greener and cleaner environment.

A major highlight of the event was the release of SECL’s annual environmental magazine, Paryavaran Darpan, by the dignitaries. A short film showcasing SECL’s environmental initiatives, green projects and sustainable mining practices was also screened during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Harish Duhan emphasized that while SECL continues to play a crucial role in meeting the nation’s energy requirements, it remains equally committed to fulfilling its environmental responsibilities. He urged employees to make environmental consciousness an integral part of their daily lives.

On the occasion, Shri Biranchi Das, Director (HR), administered the Environmental Pledge to all participants, encouraging the conservation of natural resources, promotion of tree plantation, water conservation and adoption of eco-friendly practices.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director (Technical/P&P), highlighted that sustainable development can only be achieved when industrial progress and environmental protection move hand in hand. He reiterated SECL’s commitment to responsible and environmentally sustainable mining practices.

The inaugural session featured a welcome song and cultural performances by students of DAV School, conveying the message of environmental conservation and nature preservation. Street plays on environmental awareness presented by Kusmunda Area and Hasdeo Area received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.

In his welcome address, Shri B. Rana Pratap, General Manager (Environment), elaborated on the significance of World Environment Day and highlighted SECL’s major initiatives in environmental protection and green development. The message of the Chairman, Coal India Limited, on the occasion of World Environment Day was also read out during the programme.

The event also witnessed the distribution of prizes to winners and participants of Headquarters-level competitions including essay writing, painting, extempore speech and poetry recitation contests.
